Also every Wednesday in December for this menu and a tea dance with great songs sung by Jennifer Jordan O’Neill.

The starters began with Roasted Parsnip, apple and thyme soup with parsnip crisps and warm bread – this was fruity light and with a fresh taste on the palette. The parsnip crisps and apple shards worked very well served with great bread and tasty butter and all seasoned well.

Pate with onion bread and ale chutney – this pate is locally sourced and had a meaty taste and served with pea shoots which had a great homemade dressing on them also bread delicious.

Next was whipped blacksticks blue cheese with sticky walnuts and apple and seasonal beet salad (v) This dish was a complete surprise. Super light and delicate but packed full of flavour – would be good with a slice of bread too!

Also on offer is Potted salmon and crayfish tails with lemon dill crème fraiche and malted loaf.

The Turkey dinner was fantastically presented and we could not wait to try it. Every mouthful was exciting and bursting with freshness and the fresh cranberries on the plate was perfect. The Gravy was just the right consistency and taste and the vegetables and potatoes just complimented the dish – a real winner.

Butternut Squash, spinach chestnut and Lancashire cheese pie with roast sweet potatoes, sticky onions and three cheese cream sauce. – Amazingly tasty really well thought out and the flavours really worked the size was great not stodgy or heavy a true vegetarian delight.

Slow braised blade of beef with creamy mash roast root vegetables and smoked bacon, butter onions and JW Lees ale gravy – succulent soft tender and we really enjoyed how the vegetables were incorporated.

Herb Baked fillet of salmon, lemon and white wine cream sauce, sautéed potatoes and buttered greens – the sauce on this wonderful piece of fish was so enjoyable delicate and tasty and the worked so well with the potatoes.

We tried the Christmas pudding with brandy sauce and the look on the plate was wonderful and so tasty

Vanilla crème brulee with mulled red berries was really well done and with the berries made it very fresh
