So hale were invited to sample a Sunday Roast ‘Piccolino Style’ (but good to know the everyday lunch menu is also available). Valeria and her staff welcomed us and we chose to sit at the front of the large restaurant in the covered terraced area. Unfortunately it was not a sunny hot day and the roof was on keeping away the rain.
We were sent over to sample the fabulous Primativo Don Cosimo 2015 Duepalme red wine – this is a lovely red with the grapes being picked very early and has a great deep colour. It is actually wine from the part of Italy that Valeria comes from. It was a great choice and easy drinking for lunchtime.
We sampled various breads with fresh pesto and large olives while we perused the extensive menus. The Sunday lunch can be Beef, Chicken or Pork.
The Roast comes on a platter for two people and we sampled the pork ‘Italiano’ and it was very well presented and appealing. Once arrived it was noticeable the value for money, the lovely meat and quantity, the fantastic pork crackling on the edge of the meat made you want to get stuck in.The Yorkshire puddings were large light and tasty.
Rosemary Potatoes were well cooked and the veg were al dente – just right! There was a jug of gravy and the staff asked if we required additional. There is a great atmosphere to Piccolino’s and the staffs are more than happy to offer a good service, welcoming and attentive.
Finishing with Chocolate fondant – a chocoholic’s delight and Homemade Apple Tart served warm with a crumbly base and lovely vanilla ice cream which was not too creamy.
It was certainly a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon, dining whilst watching the world of Hale go by. It was good to see families coming in to have lunch and the staff being great with the children. Finishing with coffees before we left it was easy to spend a lazy afternoon at Piccolino’s and we do look forward to being back there soon to sample the spring menu.
